Gooding & Company will be looking for a new owner for this Bugatti Type 55 Roadster next month. The vintage GT was assembled at the Bugatti factory in 1933 and had belonged to various celebrities throughout its life. It has now been comprehensively restored and is expected to sell for $10 million.
The Bugatti Type 55 was a Grand Tourer advertised as a vehicle that you could, on the one hand, travel the world in, and, on the other hand, take part in racing events. Its 2.2-liter eight-cylinder engine propels it with 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW), enabling a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). Such acceleration was shocking at the time.
Gooding reports that U.S. fashion designer Ralph Lauren was among the owners.
