YangWang U7 sedan coming to China with nearly 500 miles of range

BYD is getting ready to launch its third YangWang-series car so far – a large and luxurious all-electric sedan named the U7. According to the certification data quoted by Car News China, it is expected to have up to 800 km (497 miles) of range per charge.

The EV utilizes a lithium-iron-phosphate battery developed by BYD subsidiary FinDreams. It is impressive in terms of both capacity (135.5 kWh) and weight (903 kg / 1,990 lbs). The whole car tips the scales at 3,095 kg (6,823 lbs).

In its most basic specification, the U7 covers up to 720 km (447 miles) on a full battery. Interestingly enough, the company is selling an optional aerodynamic kit for it along with video cameras to replace the side mirrors. With these upgrades, the drag ratio drops to an impressively low 0.195 and the range goes up to the 800 km mentioned above.

From the technical perspective, the U7 runs on BYD’s e4 platform also known in China as the YiSiFang chassis. It is 5,265 mm (205.6 inches) long, 1,998 mm (78 inches) wide and 1,517 mm (59.3 inches) tall with 3,160 mm (123.5 inches) between the axles. The interior can be configured with four or five seats and comes with three displays on the dash in all trim versions.

Like the U9 Coupe before it, the YangWang U7 relies on four e-motors for propulsion, each rated at 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW). Their combined output amounts to 1,306 PS (1,288 hp / 960 kW). The EV is artificially speed-capped at 270 km/h (168 mph).
