The next entry in the Changan Shenlan lineup is a crossover SUV that’s provisionally named ‘C673’ and set to debut next year. Here is what it looks like.
The carmaker has not properly announced the model yet, but patent images suggest that it is going to be a mid-size SUV. The thing that probably stands out the most is the fog light sticking out of the middle of the rear bumper, in an unmistakable Formula One fashion.
Like the marque’s first production car, the Shenlan SL03 liftback shown in the attached video, the C673 is expected to come with a choice of three powertrains. This includes a serial (range-extender) hybrid, a full-fledged EV and a hydrogen fuel cell car. Like the five-door liftback before it, the SUV will probably get the same electric motors. If so, that implies choosing between 218 PS (215 hp / 160 kW) and 58 kWh of battery juice or – in the top spec – 258 PS (254 hp / 190 kW) and 78 kWh of power storage.
The Shenlan sub-brand has been co-founded between Changan, tech giant Huawei, and the world’s largest battery manufacturer CATL. Its positioning is distinctly upmarket from mainstream Changan vehicles, but lower than the deluxe Avatr lineup. The latter only has one production SUV so far, but the roadmap says three more will be launched over the next five years.
