The part-electric Chery Tiggo 9 has made an appearance at the Auto China show, packing 462 PS (456 hp / 340 kW) and up to 1,400 km (870 miles) of manufacturer-rated range.
The SUV combines a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine making 238 PS (235 hp / 175 kW) and 385 Nm (284 lb-ft) of torque with an electric motor supplying a further 224 PS (221 hp / 165 kW). An eight-speed automatic transmission drives the wheels. The fuel economy averages at 5.2 liters per 100 kilometers, which roughly translates into 45 miles per U.S. gallon.
On the outside, you will easily tell the Tiggo 9 PHEV from its gas-only sibling by its distinct headlights, bumpers and radiator grille. The interior also looks drastically different from the versions currently on sale in China, housing two separate displays on the dash instead of one and a much wider center tunnel with two charger pads on it. The lower half of the steering wheel is slightly squared-off, and the infotainment display is 15.6 inches large.
You may have seen a similar interior layout in the new Chery Tiggo 8 that also debuted at this year’s Auto China. The already-selling Chery Fulwin T9 has a similar design, too.
