Styled-up, well-preserved El Camino crops up on sale

Mecum Auctions will be looking for a new owner for this 1987 Chevrolet El Camino in January. Tuned by Choo Choo Customs and barely driven, it can fetch a nice amount.

The modifications are purely visual, starting with a front end inspired by the luxurious Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, monochrome exterior graphics and a Choo Choo badge on the glove compartment door in the cabin. The same company often overhauled the interiors of these light “muscle trucks”, but whoever ordered this particular example must have opted out.

The listing fails to mention how much power and torque the engine produces, but it does say that it’s a standard 5.0-liter V8 mill that many El Camino made in their final production year came equipped with. Without any tuning upgrades, this engine drove the wheels with 152–167 PS (150–165 hp; 112–123 kW) through an automatic gearbox. Much could have happened to it over the past 38 years, but with only 10,500 km (6,500 miles) on the odometer, the pickup is barely driven-in.

We suppose this one has all it takes to bring its owner $50,000 or more.
