Report: Chrysler Airflow will not go into production

It took Chrysler multiple years to design the new Airflow SUV, and we even caught a glimpse of its almost-ready prototype last spring, but the company ultimately decided to scrap the project.

Per Motor Trend quoting Ralph Gilles, Chief Design Officer at Stellantis, who in turn references Chrysler CEO Christine Feuell, the company took a 180-degree turn in its development strategy and was getting rid of any projects not completely in line with the new vision.

Gilles called the Airflow Concept a fine exercise and a great starting point, but said that the EV coming to the market instead of it would be way more up-to-date and laden with tech – both inside and out. It will allegedly be based on the STLA Large platform, have a traction battery built into the floor, and offer at least 650 kilometers (404 miles) of driving range. Level 3 self-driving is also on the list of expected features.

The name Airflow will likely be scrapped along with the prototype, and the SUV that comes to replace it will get a new name instead. The premiere will take place in 2024, but Chrysler wasted no time showing the new prototype to a few select dealerships around the USA to gather feedback.

The production is scheduled for 2025.
