Dacia teases an affordable modern crosswagon

The Dacia Striker will likely be fully unveiled tomorrow, March 10. In the meantime, the company posted a few images and a short video teaser.

One of the pics shows a taillight that looks in line with the Romanian automaker’s other offerings, but that’s about all we can say about the car right now. Earlier interviews with Dacia revealed that it considered its Jogger model as a compact and light commercial van first and foremost. In contrast, the new Striker features a raised estate/wagon body style and comes clad in a rugged body kit, making it sound like a car for families who like to spend their weekends out in the open.

Nothing has been revealed about the powertrain choices so far. It would make sense for the newcomer to borrow at least some of the tech from the current Bigster, though. We are especially looking forward to seeing its hybrid-G 150 4×4 powertrain in the Striker. It combines a 1.2-liter turbo three-pot rated at 140 PS (138 hp / 103 kW) with a single motor contributing 31 PS (31 hp / 23 kW). It uses a six-speed dual-clutch transmission to drive all four wheels, but lacks serious off-road capabilities.

As far as the pricing goes, we suppose the Dacia Striker could be priced close to the Bigster in Europe, which means €24,000 and upwards. Being a wagon in a market flooded with SUVs, it might end up being slightly cheaper. We hope to learn new details tomorrow.
