Video: Hyundai Elantra N faces off Dodge Charger in a fierce drag strip battle

Automakers have nearly given up on new sedans by now, but the market is still full of these cars that once reigned supreme. With this video comparing a 2022 Hyundai Elantra N against a Dodge Charger Daytona, YouTuber Sam CarLegion reminds us that the four-door body style stays relevant regardless of the trends.

The Korean saloon approaches the start line with a two-liter turbo four-cylinder engine driving the front wheels through an eight-speed DCT. Its engine produces 280 PS (276 hp / 206 kW), but you can briefly boost the output to 290 PS (286 hp / 213 kW). The torque amounts to 391 Nm (288 lb-ft), and the curb weight is rather modest at just 1,496 kilos (3,300 pounds).

Going up against it on the drag strip is a Dodge Charger Daytona with a potent 5.7-liter non-turbo V8 slamming the wheels with 380 PS (375 hp / 279 kW) and 535 Nm (395 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is eight-speed automatic, and the drive is on the rear wheels. What power advantage the Dodge might have is at least partially offset by its weight of 1,950 kg (4,300 lbs).

Multiple runs were attempted, and the only thing we can say is the winner didn’t have it easy. Watch the video!
