Drift-ready Ferrari 550 Maranello packs a 1,200-HP Japanese engine

A video has been posted on YouTube showcasing a Ferrari 550 Maranello fitted with a modified Nissan GT-R engine. The car comes rated at approximately 1,200 horsepower (895 kilowatts) and will take part in the D1GP drift series in Japan.

The Maranello normally leaves the assembly line with a 5.5-liter V12 under the hood, rated at 492 hp (367 kW) and 569 Nm (420 pound-feet) of torque. This particular example, however, trades its monster motor for a six-cylinder Nissan VR38DETT expanded to 4.3 liters of displacement and fitted with a single enormous turbocharger rather than two smaller ones.

This is not the first time someone builds a Ferrari drift car, naturally. A recent video demonstrated us a tuned 599 GTB armed with a 6.0-liter V12 engine pumping out 930 hp (694 kW). Unfortunately, the vehicle burst into flames during the initial test run.
