Meet Fiat Tris, a supermini truck for emerging markets

Fiat Commercial Vehicles has unveiled the Tris, a particularly compact and cheap three-wheel truck mainly envisioned as a last-mile delivery vehicle. With only 90 km (56 miles) of all-electric range at its disposal, it should still find use in Africa and Middle East countries.

The vehicle is 3,170 mm (123.8 inches) long and features a bed 2.25 square meters large – just enough to fit a EUR-pallet, the company points out. The nominal carrying capacity is 540 kilos, or 1,190 lbs.

A single e-motor drives the wheels with 12 PS (12 hp / 9 kW) and 45 Nm (33 lb-ft) of torque. The top speed doesn’t exceed 45 km/h (28 mph). A 6.9-kWh battery pack supplies the power and takes 4 hours 40 minutes to recharge fully from a wall socket.

Standard equipment includes LED lights, 12-inch wheels and a 5.7-inch digital instrument cluster. The company claims that the Tris will make a comfortable vehicle even for those working long hours, but doesn’t specify how exactly. It also promises to ship it with a large number of dedicated accessories.

Later on, the same vehicle will be available as a bare motorized chassis for businesses to outfit it with custom equipment according to their needs.
