According to Ford, Bronco Sport owners go off-roading about 3.5 times as often as people driving compact SUVs from competing brands. That’s why, like its bigger cousin, the Bronco Sport will be getting an off-road package called Sasquatch early next year.
It will be available in just two trims – the affordable Outer Banks and the expensive Badlands. The former will get a rear diff lock and new springs for 10 mm (0.4 in) of extra ground clearance. The latter will get the same mods, plus Bilstein shocks for 15 mm (0.6 in) of extra suspension travel. It will also get a dedicated drive mode called Rally.
Both variants will ride on new 29-inch, 236/65 R17 Goodyear tires purpose-designed for this SUV alone. The list goes on to mention reinforced bumpers with four towing eyes, assorted skid plates and guards, and flip-down tethering points in the fenders that you can use to secure a particularly large load on the expedition rack.
Drivers will get additional switches for handy access to off-road features, such as the auxiliary light bar. The displays on the dashboard will be upgraded to 12.3 inches of diagonal size for the instrument cluster and 13.2 inches for the multimedia system.
In the United States, the Bronco’s smaller cousin ships with a 1.5-liter engine rated at 180 PS (178 hp / 132 kW) or its 2.0-liter four-cylinder counterpart capable of 238 PS (235 hp / 175 kW). Both are linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission driving four wheels.
