Ford Edge L seven-seater debuts in China with a giant display

The Ford Edge L is the successor to the Edge Plus model designed specifically for the Chinese market.

The first patent shots and specifications of the car were published by the Ministry of Industry and IT in August last year, but the interior was never shown. The car was stated to be 5,000 mm long, 1,961 mm wide and 1,773 mm tall with 2,950 mm of wheelbase. Compared to the Edge Plus, the L version was 122 mm taller, 36 mm wider and 3 mm taller with 100 mm of added space between the axles.

On the outside, the headlights are now visually merged with a new radiator grille, while the DRLs are fashioned as triple horizontal stripes. The same pattern can be found at the rear end, with the lettering ‘EDGE’ between the taillights. The bumpers are all-new, too, the roof is slanted, the sides are sculpted and there is a two-part spoiler.

The architecture resembles that of the Evos and Mondeo models for China, which are also produced by the same Ford-Changan factory. There is a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster inside, as well as a 27-inch 4K infotainment display. The trim options include a heads-up display, Bang & Olufsen audio, 20 driving assists, a three-zone HVAC, and a panoramic roof. The seat configuration is 2+2+3.

Power for the Edge L comes from an EcoBoost 2.0L turbo four-cylinder mill rated at 252 PS (249 hp / 185 kW) and 378 Nm (279 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission conveys the torque to four wheels. Buyers can opt for a hybrid version with a single electric motor raising the output to 275 PS (271 hp / 202 kW) and 405 Nm (299 lb-ft) of torque. Sprinting from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 7.1 seconds and the driving range with the battery and the tank full amounts to 1,188 km (738 miles).
