An exclusive Ford GT supercar has fetched $1,500,000 at an official auction in the USA. The winning bidder ended up paying three times the car’s original price.
The vehicle in question is a Heritage Edition 66, painted to resemble the famous GT40 racecar that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It was but the first in a whole series of victories the ultra-successful Ford car has claimed since.
The GT packs a 3.5-liter V6 engine rated at 655 hp (488 kW) and 745 Nm (550 lb-ft). Selling it was no simple task, since all potential buyers had to complete a series of talks first and then sign an agreement that forbid reselling it within 24 months.
Apparently, not even these strict measures were enough to protect the series from resale machinations. In early 2019, another such car went for the even more impressive amount of U.S. $1,800,000. The auction holder was handed a court invitation on the day after the sale and ultimately had to reimburse Ford for the losses incurred.
