Foxconn, a semiconductor company best known as the iPhone chipset maker, established a car marque called Foxtron a while ago and has now presented the Foxtron Model B, its next production car.
The EV has a distinct front end styled like the Foxtron Model E Concept revealed last year. Both cars were actively co-designed between the Chinese carmaker and Italian star coachbuilder Pininfarina. The latter went as far as to produce the prototype in metal using its own resources.
Despite following the Tesla naming convention, the newcomer will be competing with the likes of the Nissan Leaf and the Volkswagen ID.3, rather than any Tesla cars. According to the manufacturer, it uses MIH underpinnings and has enough battery juice for 500 km (310 miles) of range. The power and torque remain to be revealed.
By design, the MIH platform supports all kinds of drive systems including front, rear and full. The electric motor installed on the front axle produces at least 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) by design specifications, while the rear motor output starts from 200 PS (197 hp / 147 kW). Batteries are supported within the range of 93–116 kilowatt-hours, but we suspect that the ‘affordable’ status of the Model B will land it with the smallest size available.
