Geely Preface unveiled with Volvo tech and specs

The Geely Preface Concept revealed last year is in its final pre-production testing stages, and should start shipping soon. The company has shared a couple of new photos along with certain technical details today, so let’s see them.

The model is the trailblazer of a new design philosophy called Technology Geely 4.0. Directed by Peter Horbury, the Geely Design department made the car look much like its related Volvo peers while retaining its original radiator grille.

The Preface comes based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) shared by the Volvo XC40 and the assorted models by the automaker’s subsidiary in China: Lynk & Co. It is Geely’s second CMA-based production vehicle after the FY11 coupe/SUV.

At 4,785 mm (15.7 feet) long, 1,869 mm (6.13 ft.) wide and 1,469 mm (4.82 ft.) tall, the Preface is slightly larger than the Volvo S60, which takes advantage of a superior technical platform called SPA. Despite the larger overall dimensions, the Chinese sedan has a wheelbase only 2.8 meters (9.19 feet) long, as opposed to the 2,872 mm (9.42 ft.) of the S60.

Volvo also supplies the engine for the model: the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder Drive-E turbo consumes gasoline for 190 hp (142 kW) and 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of maximum torque. The drive stays on the front axle, and the transmission type remains a mystery so far – as does the cabin.

Then again, the 2021 Geely Preface should be revealed in its full glory this fall, so stay tuned!
