“Unprecedented” sale of Gordon Murray’s next supercar set to close north of $20M

RM Sotheby’s will be holding an auction at the F1 Grand Prix in Las-Vegas later this month dedicated to a GMSV S1 LM, one of five supercars planned for production by Gordon Murray Special Vehicles.  Although the creator of the legendary McLaren F1 has yet to deliver the first example, the production slot is already being estimated above $20,000,000.

The car known as the S1 LM was introduced in August as a modern interpretation of the track-only McLaren F1 GTR. It uses the chassis of the company’s previous supercar, the GMA T.50, but is mechanically distinct enough to warrant it a standalone status, the company claims.

Compared to the T.50, the new S1 LM has a completely new carbon-fiber exterior and a 4.3-liter Cosworth V12 capable of revving up to 12,100 RPM. Its output of 700 PS (690 hp / 515 kW) is plenty for a coupe weighing in at 957 kilos (2,110 lbs).

An essential thing to note about the impending auction is that it is being held for a production slot, that is, the right to claim the first car made by the company, and seemingly doesn’t even include the car itself. The seller argues that whoever buys it out will be able to fine-tune the appearance of the exclusive vehicle to their taste. They will also be able to take part in various test drives accompanied by Gordon Murray himself and his test pilot, Dario Franchitti.
