Haval’s Hybrid Dog shapes up to be just the second-gen Big Dog

Chinese automaker Haval will not be selling its upcoming hybrid crossover SUV formerly known as the H-Dog as a standalone model. Rather, the vehicle will debut as the second generation of the existing Haval Big Dog, a.k.a. DaGou/Dargo. Here are some of the specifications.

Compared to the Haval Big Dog currently on sale in China, the new model features a much more elaborate exterior design and is noticeably larger, too. It is 85 mm (3.5 inches) longer and has 72 mm (2.8 inches) more wheelbase length than the Big Dog. The manufacturer says the ground clearance is at 200 mm (8 inches), the approach angle is 24 degrees, and the departure angle is 30 degrees.

The interior is somewhat inspired by the Dargo, but looks much heavier on the tech and more modern overall. There is a 14.6-inch center display, a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a more up-to-date infotainment system. A 9-inch heads-up display is also included.

In the powertrain department, we only know that the new DaGou will be getting a hybrid option with a 1.5-liter petrol engine and an electric motor. This specification delivers a combined 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW) and 530 Nm (391 lb-ft) of torque. The range with the battery and the tank full amounts to 1,000 kilometers (621 miles).

Haval should unveil the Big Dog Mk2 in China before the end of March. According to AutoHome.cn, the company believes that the launch will strengthen its standing in the electrified SUV segment of the market. The pricing remains to be revealed, though.
