Hyperion previews a 2,038-PS hydrogen hypercar

U.S.-based hypercar maker Hyperion has shared new images and some technical parameters of the XP-1 Hyper:Car, a model it announced a few years ago. Quad motors drive the wheels with a combined effort of 2,038 PS (2,010 hp; 1,500 kW).

The car boasts a novel and futuristic exterior with a pointed front end, doors that swing open upwards and bulging wheel arches. The inserts between the doors and the rear fenders resemble similar details of the Bugatti Veyron.

Judging by the pics, the interior only has two seats to offer with a massive center console separating them. The console runs through the entire cabin from the windshield to the rear window, its top surface turned into a single giant display. Earlier promises from Hyperion included an ‘innovative 98-inch display’, and it looks like this is it.

Thanks to ubiquitous use of carbon fiber, the car weighs in at just 1,032 kilograms (2,275 pounds). Coupled with an insanely powerful drivetrain, the weight enables the XP-1 to snap from standstill to 96.6 km/h (60 mph) in 2.25 seconds. The top speed is manufacturer-rated at 356 km/h (220 mph).

Aside from its other impressive feats, the car is shaping up to become the longest-range vehicle running on an alternative source of energy. When maxed out, its hydrogen fuel cell system reportedly yields around 1,600 km (1,000 miles) of range. In addition to that, the XP-1 has supercapacitors in its design that absorb and recycle the power accumulated while braking.
