New Hyundai Accent nabbed testing in Korea

The next generation of Hyundai’s Accent sedan has been spotted near the company’s research and development HQ in South Korea. The car will only debut next year, so the camouflage is understandable – but new headlights look like a big deal.

If you squint, you will see the main headlight units mounted far below hood level. This likely means that the affordable car now has two-tier headlamps with DRLs at the top. LEDs are optional for the current generation, but they could become standard in the next one.

A thin LED stripe has been added in the back to connect the taillights and make the body seem wider than it is. An imitated small window in the c-pillar serves a similar purpose, making the whole car appear longer.

The one question we cannot answer is what kind of drivetrains the new Accent will ship with. In late 2021, the company said it did not intend to design any new internal combustion engines, so we assumed it would inherit them from the previous generation. However, Hyundai USA refuted this theory in early 2022, saying the engines would be new.
