The IM L7 electric sedan gets an update in China

IM Motors, car company co-founded between SAIC Group, Alibaba Group and the government of China, is taking pre-orders for its refreshed L7 model. The electric saloon can be obtained in four different versions including RWD and AWD, Car News China reports.

The original (see video) was envisioned as a competitor of the Tesla Model S. It went on sale domestically in 2022 and received a flagship spec called Snake Performance several months later.

Like the pre-facelift version, the new IM L7 can still be optioned with a single electric motor or two. The former option gives you 340 PS (335 hp / 250 kW), 475 Nm (469 hp / 350 kW) of torque and rear-wheel drive. The latter nets you 578 PS (570 hp / 425 kW), 725 Nm (535 lb-ft) of torque and four driven wheels. The company doesn’t mention the battery size; the original had 93 kWh.

In its basic spec starting from 299,900 Yuan, the IM L7 has 708 km (440 miles) of CLTC-rated range. It’s also a decent sprinter with a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) time of 5.9 seconds. The remaining three specs are AWD and cover up to 625 km (388 mi) on a charge. The fastest one needs 3.87 seconds for the sprint. Their respective prices are 349,900, 389,900 and 419,900 Yuan.

Elsewhere, the facelift version benefits from two higher-resolution frontal cameras that the company says should improve its self-driving capabilities, as well as more comfortable front seats. Like before, a widescreen display occupies most of the dashboard, while the center console houses a vertical touchscreen. There’s a steering yoke in the list of options, but the default option is a normal round wheel.

According to rumors, SAIC Group is planning on rebranding IM Motors for the export markets. The company’s domestic cars known as the L6, L7, LS6 and LS7 will allegedly be exported to Europe and South America under the corporation’s other subordinate car brand, MG. There has been no official confirmation yet.
