New Infiniti QX80 spotted testing

Infiniti has taken a completely camouflaged QX80 out for a round of tests, Carscoops reports. Judging by the images, the company’s flagship SUV makes do with small, evolutionary changes, making us wonder whether it’s the next generation or a simple facelift. Either way, the sales are only expected to begin next summer.

The model retains its recognizable outlines and has what looks like a mildly revised radiator grille, new (possibly multi-tier) headlights and flush door handles. The number plate has moved from the tailgate to the bumper, while the taillights appear intact.

The interior should become more spacious in the new version with a modern solid infotainment cluster composed from two 12-inch displays and an HVAC control panel.

According to insider reports, the current V8 will drop out of the lineup to make room for a V6 twin-turbo mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission The current engine has 5.6 liter of non-turbo displacement and produces 405 PS (400 hp / 299 kW) along with 560 Nm (413 lb-ft) of torque. In contrast, the V6 TT could offer as much as 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW).

In terms of features, the new QX80 may get a semi-autonomous driving system, like Cadillac’s SuperCruise.

The SUV was originally released 13 years ago under the name QX56. It was renamed to QX80 in 2013 and has since been refreshed more than once (check out the video for an older facelift).
