Automaker JAC has held a press conference in China to introduce its latest-and-greatest off-roader, the JS9.
It’s based on the same platform as the 5.3-meter (17.4-ft) long T9 pickup, but has an SUV body. The only thing we know about the engine is that it’s two liters large. The T9 has a N20TG 2.0-liter engine rated at 224 PS (221 hp / 165 kW) and 390 Nm (288 lb-ft) in tandem with an eight-speed automatic transmission. It could be the same; could be not.
JAC claims that the SUV is a better overlanding machine than the T9 pickup thanks to its higher ground clearance and improved body geometry. The T9 has decent approach/departure angles at 27 and 23 degrees, respectively, and it sounds like the new JS9 should be even better in this regard.
There are still no interior shots, but the company promises us a roomy cabin with a large infotainment display and high-quality trim all around.
