Tuners revive a vintage American SUV from the 1960s

Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are both well-known names in the portfolio of Jeep, but not many of us still remember that the company actually offered something called “Super Wagoneer” back in the ‘60s. It was essentially Jeep’s early take on the luxury SUV segment decades before it became a thing.

Fast-forward to the present day, and the Jeep tuning specialists over at Vigilante just unveiled a gorgeous-looking Super Wagoneer restomod. They swapped out the stock engine for a 6.4-liter V8 capable of 492 PS (485 hp / 362 kW) and 644 Nm (475 lb-ft) of torque. A modern six-speed manual was installed as well, and the team even devised a bespoke 4WD system for the project.

Other upgrades included off-road suspension mods and Baer disc brakes. The body was resprayed in a greenish shade of light blue with silver accents, and the interior was retrimmed with matching leather and metal bits.

True to its retro aesthetic, the off-roader has little to offer in terms of modern electronics. There’s an HVAC system on board, a Bluetooth radio, and that’s about it.

All pricing is private, but you could ask Vigilante for a quotation.
