Reports: Kia to localize European EV production by 2025

Hyundai Motor Company has decided establish an EV production site in Europe to build Kia-badged electric cars for EU countries. According to Automotive News Europe, the factory will be located in Slovakia and churn out its first vehicle in three years’ time.

The factory has been functioning in the country since the early 2000s, producing Sportage, Ceed and Xceed models. Its capacity is currently rated at 330,000 vehicles per year, but it seems likely that EV production will necessitate a major upgrade.

Kia’s current lineup in Europe includes only three cars – the ICE-powered Soul and Niro and the battery-powered EV6 (shown in our gallery here). In September alone, customers in Europe bought more than 22,000 EV6 units.
