China’s Freelander revival teased in camo

Freelander, a Chinese vehicle brand co-created between Land Rover and Chery, has posted the first images of a crossover scheduled for launch in the second half of the year.

Overall, the car depicted strongly resembles the Freelander Concept 97 that hit the spotlight in March this year (see video). It boasts a similarly shaped hood, a boxy exterior and intricate light patterns all around. At the same time, the production car has seemingly ditched the rear-hinged rear doors for a more traditional (and safer) front-hinged design.

In China, the Freelander nameplate is going to become a whole lineup of vehicles. The exact model name of the SUV seen here is still unknown, but it draws design inspiration from the original Land Rover Freelander, which stayed in production until 2015. At the same time, it benefits from an all-new chassis said to support both hybrid and all-electric powertrains. Qualcomm and Huawei also take part in the development, promising us a wide selection of smart drive modes and a plethora of ADAS features.

Until 2030, Freelander plans to introduce up to six new vehicles in China. Some will be offered on the domestic market only, while others may be exported.
