Leapmotor has revealed the first three teaser pics of the Lafa 5, an all-electric five-door hatchback for Europe billed as “the dream car for the young people who refuse to settle”. It will debut at the IAA Munich next Monday, September 8, and will go on sale in Europe and China.
Based on the pictures, the hatchback sports a Porsche Panamera-style slanted hood, a LiDAR on the roof, a decent spoiler at the back and a solid LED strip for the taillight. In short, it looks more or less like any other Leapmotor car out there. The interior stays secret for the time being, but rumor has it there’s a 14.6-inch infotainment display and a premium trim.
You may have heard about this EV when it was still referred to as “B05”, which was its provisional model name. Back then, the media speculated that it could be offered in Europe starting from around €35,000. For a bit of context, the Volkswagen ID.3 starts from €33,300 in Germany.
Leapmotor claims it managed to sell more than 57,000 vehicles in August alone, up 13.8% from July and up 88.3% year-on-year. With support from Stellantis Group, the Chinese automaker hopes to launch several other vehicles on the Old Continent soon. These include the B10, advertised as a Ford Explorer EV and Peugeot e-3008 rival, the A10 SUV and the A05 hatchback. By 2027, the company aspires to become one of the world’s five greatest producers of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs). The plan implies launching at least six new cars in Europe over two years.
