At this time, the Lucid EV lineup comprises the Air sedan and the recently introduced Gravity SUV. The latter is sometimes compared against the Tesla Model Y, but it really comes much closer to the models S and X in terms of pricing and features. Things may change soon with the announcement of a more affordable crossover, though.
Speaking at an event dedicated to the company’s product strategy moving forward, Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson revealed that the company was busy working on a new EV dubbed Project Midsize. He said it would be more of a mass-market model than the company’s previous releases, attracting a wider audience with its moderate pricing. He added that it was not just a study; on the contrary, work had already started on the SUV.
The new Lucid EV is expected to benefit from an innovative, more efficient architecture. It will go into production in Arizona and at a recently commissioned factory in Saudi Arabia. The capacity of the latter is still capped at 5,000 units per year, but Lucid plans to keep upgrading it until it can churn out 150,000 EVs every year.
