Maserati has officially begun unveiling its GranCabrio model, a droptop version of the latest GranTurismo set to ship with both ICE and electric powertrains. For the time being, only the flagship V6 spec has been revealed.
The new GranCabrio boasts a cloth top that doesn’t occupy as much space in the trunk as a hardtop does, the company argues. It takes 14 seconds to fold down at 50 km/h (31 mph) or lower. The buttons responsible for it are built into the touchscreen display on the dash. Buyers can choose from five available top colors and six body finishes.
In its most basic trim, the GranCabrio offers three-stage seat adjustments with air vents and neck heaters in the headrests. A windscreen that can be manually installed behind the seats to reduce wind pressure is a paid option.
Other than that, the interior design largely coincides with that of the coupe. There’s a 12.2-inch digital dash, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8.8-inch HVAC control panel. The multimedia system runs on Android OS.
Powering the cabriolet is the company’s 3.0-liter Nettuno V6 dialed up to its peak nominal output, 550 PS (542 hp / 405 kW). That’s the same as the GranTurismo Trofeo. Since the droptop is heavier by design, it takes 3.6 seconds to launch to 100 km/h (62 mph) – one tenth of a second longer than the fixed-roof car. Maserati claims a top speed of 315 km/h (195 mph) for it, which is impressive since the coupe can do 320 km/h (199 mph).
The battery-powered GranCabrio Folgore remains to be properly announced. Its coupe counterpart utilizes three electric motors to deliver 762 PS (750 hp / 560 kW) to the wheels and hit 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.
