Limited-edition McLaren 620R announced

McLaren will be releasing a new super coupe called the 620R. While positioned as a ‘civilian’ version of the 570S FT4 racecar, it will take advantage of the more modern 600LT chassis, as well as some aerodynamic features of the MSO X and a 620hp (462kW) engine.

The 620R will strive to bridge the gap between the Sports Series it belongs to and the high-end Super Series, which includes the famous 720S. As far as the appearance is concerned, the model looks like the 570S FT4 except for the front bumper, the hood, and the roof scoop. Its hood cover and tailpipes running down the bumper sides remind of the 570S Coupe, but the rear wing lends it a distinct racecar look.

The limited series comes equipped with 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8s rated at 620 horsepower (462 kilowatts) and 620 Newton-meters (457 pound-feet) of torque, which puts it on par with the 600LT. Acceleration from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) will take less than three seconds. The manufacturer will likely strip the car of some interior furnishings in order to minimize weight and fit it with lightweight bucket seats and large-diameter wheels. The suspension will also likely be revised in the street-legal 620R.

The McLaren 620R will only be available to select McLaren customers, who will get special invitations. The production volume is being kept secret, but the company says it will produce more than 10 copies (the MSO X series was limited to 10).

More specs and the pricing will follow in 2020. To put things into perspective, a 600LT would currently set you back €230,000, which likely means a 620R would cost you at least €250,000.
