Watch a 943-PS McLaren 765LT zap 0-97 km/h in mere 1.7 seconds

As we all have learned by now, the new McLaren 765LT has insane acceleration chops as is, and quickly becomes a hypercar slayer given enough engine tuning. This is what M Engineering did a few days ago, ending with two broken records.

The OEM supercar has eight cylinders, four liters of displacement, two turbochargers, and 765 PS (754 hp / 563 kW) at the crank. By replacing the downpipes and re-programming the ECU to make the most use out of MS109-grade racing fuel, the tuner has bumped the output to 943 PS (930 hp / 693 kW) measured at the rear wheels. This would imply considerably more than 1,000 HP at the crank.

The team has also swapped OEM tires out for Toyo R888R slicks for the race, which enabled the McLaren to reach 97 km/h (60 miles per hour) within a breezy 1.7 seconds. It then proceeded to cover a quarter-mile strip in 8.793 seconds – all the while remaining road-legal, no less!

Watch the video, where the insane 765LT goes up against (and loses to, albeit only barely) a 1,400-HP Audi A8.
