Could Mercedes-Benz be considering a particularly compact car?

The latest rumors insist that the Mercedes A-Class and the GLA crossover may soon lose their status as Mercedes’ smallest vehicles to date, as an entry-level replacement is coming to the market.

The talk began last summer when Johen Eck, Mercedes Head of Overall Vehicle Testing, and Axel Heix, Compact Vehicle Chief Development Engineer, said the MFA platform technically supported vehicles even smaller than the current A-Class.

It is suspected that a three-door A-Class hatchback may come out in 2022, followed by a CUV-like version with added ride height, a plastic body kit and roof rails in 2023. Both will allegedly be restricted to front-wheel drive.

None of this is official yet.
