Mercedes-Benz E-Class and EQE get limited self-parking functionality

Owners of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the all-electric EQE will be able to tell their cars to park themselves using an advanced technology similar to Level 4 self-driving, albeit not without major caveats.

The feature is called Intelligent Park Pilot and only functions at special parking lots equipped with sensors made by Bosch. Owners must use their Mercedes mobile app to reserve a parking spot at one of those lots in advance, otherwise it will not work.

When close to the parking spot, the driver can leave the car and switch it into IPP mode. The car will then proceed to the nearest suitable spot and part itself there. The reverse procedure is also available: standing at a parking entrance and pressing a button in the app will call the car back to you.

As limited as the IPP sounds, it still saves you from the headache of looking for an unoccupied spot, talking with any parking assistants and maneuvering in tight spaces.
