Mercedes-Benz confirms killing off EQE sedan & SUV

Shortly after assuring everyone that it had no plans to take the axe to the all-electric and poorly selling EQE sedan, Mercedes brought down the axe on that car and its SUV-shaped counterpart, ending their pitiful three-year lifetime.

The company never provided any clear reasoning for the move. Some believe it was necessary to avoid model range bloat and cannibalization of sales. However, even with these considerations out of the picture, it’s easy to see how bad the sales of the EQE were all around the world. In fact, Mercedes had already pulled it from North America.

Back when it was adamant about facelifting the EVs instead of discontinuing them, the automaker promised us nice things like improved motors and 800V power internals for ultra-fast charging. Insiders are now claiming that the much more expensive EQS and EQS SUV will still get the facelift, but whether to believe that is up to you.

For the time being, Mercedes should do well enough for itself selling the electric C-Class and the GLC EQ. In 2027, an E-Class sedan comparable in size to the EQE is scheduled to arrive. It will allegedly be based on the same MB.EA platform, but look like a more traditional Benz.
