Mercedes-Benz G500 gets one Final Edition before parting with V8

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the G500 Final Edition. Only 1,500 G-Class units like this will be released, after which the model will no longer ship with eight-cylinder engines. The starting price in Europe is €196,350.

The first time the G-Class received a V8 engine was exactly 30 years ago, in 1993, when the 500 GE V8 was released. To commemorate it, the company will be making the G500 Final Edition in three colors to choose from – new shades of black, white and olive green. Extra chrome trims and 20-inch wheels will also be included along with numerous special edition badges. Lights integrated into the side mirrors will project the slogan ‘Stronger than Time’ onto the ground next to the car.

Equipment-wise, the limited series will get Burmeister audio, extra-comfortable seats and an extended Nappa leather trim spreading through the entire cabin and even the ceiling. The available interior color schemes will be dictated by your chosen exterior finish. The key fob will be linked with a commemorative plaque styled as a silver coin.

The company plans to make 500 SUVs of each color mentioned above. All cars will utilize the standard 4.0-liter V8 rated at 421 PS (415 hp / 309 kW) and 610 Nm (455 lb-ft) of torque. The production is expected to continue until March 2024, after which the G500 will trade its traditional V8 for an unspecified six-cylinder engine.
