Diesel-powered army G-Wagen returns as a 435-PS restomod

In the early 1990s, Mercedes-Benz produced a military version of its G-Class off-roader. Dubbed the Wolf, it came equipped with a rather modern 90-PS (89-hp / 66-kW) diesel engine and had very little to offer in terms of creature comforts. You wouldn’t expect a car like that to make a fine restomod – yet here we are.

The G-Wagen seen here was built by the Expedition Motor Company (EMC) in the United States. As such, it was swapped to an LS3 V8 capable of 435 PS (430 hp / 320 kW) without any forced induction. To ensure proper handling, the suspension was rebuilt on Bilstein components, and the exterior ended up with a military-themed livery. The interior was retrofitted with six seats – four in the main space and two “paratrooper” seats in the trunk.

Should the 6.2-liter mill prove too much for you, EMC lists other options including a 3.0-liter diesel inline-six rated at 279 PS (275 hp / 205 kW) and an entry-level 2.5-liter five-pot with unspecified power and torque.

Prices in the U.S. start from $185,000. Set aside another $55,000 if you want the V8.
