The U.S.-based automotive brand Renntech is renowned for its many vivid and memorable Mercedes builds, but the project announced earlier this week just might eclipse them all.
Known as the Renntech SEC V12 Sledgehammer, it is based on the classical Mercedes C126 SEC coupe, steering it into the direction of early-era AMG Hammers from the 1980s. Back when the AMG brand was still standalone from Mercedes, it could afford some truly wild creations – the iconic Hammer among them.
The heart of the build is an M120 V12 engine, the same mill that powered the famous Mercedes CLK GTR back in its glory days and even made it under the hood of the Pagani Zonda. With a special touch from Renntech, the engine gains 7.5 liters of displacement (up from 6.0) and starts churning out 670 PS (660 hp / 493 kW) along with 881 Nm (650 lb-ft) of torque.
We were unable to find any mention of a transmission, but there’s hardly any doubt that the drive is on the rear wheels. Based on the 3D renderings available so far, the car will also be getting a purpose-built aero kit with a reshaped radiator grille, a new hood, widened fenders, a rear diffuser and a lip spoiler. Forged wheels are on the list, too.
Customers will be able to personalize the interior to taste. Only 12 examples will be made, and the first delivery is scheduled for 2027.
Since the project is in its early stages, there’s still no video of the Sledgehammer. You may still want to check out the vid above for another Renntech project: a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 tuned to run a quarter-mile (402 meters) in 9.79 seconds, a standing world record.
