Nissan Pathfinder gets a pimped-out special edition for China

Nissan has brought a conceptual take on its Pathfinder SUV to the Shanghai expo. The company said nothing about its production prospects, but AutoHome.cn believes the car will soon reach the market, although only in China.

The proposed design is much more futuristic with an all-new front fascia, complex LED headlights and different bumper and grille. The side sills, the tailgate and the taillights are also new.

A peek inside reveals a considerably different interior layout with a laconic center tunnel and console lacking physical buttons and switches. A single head unit resides where multiple separate displays used to be. The steering wheel and the air vents look stock in the photos.

The manufacturer said the reason it reimagined the Pathfinder specifically for China was that the competition grew too high in the SUV segment in the market. Failing to account for the customers’ tastes and national traditions would leave the large off-roader no chances in the crowded market.

Per AutoHome, the car will go on sale with an assortment of IC engines to choose from, culminating in a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 288 PS (284 hp / 212 kW) and 351 Nm (259 lb-ft) of torque. The transmission is nine-speed automatic, the same that’s available for the current generation.

The production will allegedly begin in Q4 2023 at the Nissan-Dongfeng industrial complex.
