Nissan Rogue PHEV doesn’t outprice its donor in the U.S.

The “new” Nissan Rogue PHEV for the United States is set to ship in late February. It has nothing to do with the gas-powered Nissan Rogue/X-Trail lineup, instead being a rebadged Mitsubishi Outlander.

The cheapest trim costs $45,990, a hefty premium over the $40,445 of a similarly equipped Outlander. Buyers get 20-inch black wheels, black side mirrors and a power tailgate with a proximity sensor. Interior highlights include a 9-inch head unit, a 12.3-inch digital dash, a two-zone HVAC, a single wireless charging pad and heated front seats. The fit and finish involves imitation leather.

The top trim starts from $49,990. It combines fake leather with natural inserts, adds a third climate control zone, a panoramic roof, and a Bose audio system. The driver’s seat gets power adjustments and the steering wheel becomes heated.

On the powertrain side of things, the Rogue PHEV is no different from the Outlander. It emplys a 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine and two e-motors hooked onto a 20-kWh battery pack. The motors send 251 PS (248 hp / 185 kW) to the wheels developing up to 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque and can go on for 61 km (38 miles) in all-electric mode, per the EPA standard.

It’s worth pointing out that the entry-level Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV remains available in North America and costs $5,545 less. One has to wonder how its clone will perform.
