Opel has refreshed its Astra hatchback and wagon lineup with updated looks and new tech, as well as a bigger battery for the EV version. Sales will begin next year.
Starting with the exterior, the new Astra is immediately recognizable thanks to a redesigned front end with new DRLs and matrix LED headlights. Eye-catching black accents lend a sportier vibe to the air intakes making them seem larger, and new 17- and 18-inch wheels further ramp up the sportiness factor. You may watch the videos above for a reminder of what the pre-facelift versions look like.
Inside, every Astra now ships with Opel’s most comfortable Intelli-Seats installed as standard – no more need to pay for the top trim to get these. The company also points out a much simpler and more intuitive infotainment UI, even if it still resides on an old 10-inch touchscreen.
All powertrain specs are pending, but some conclusions can already be drawn. The hybrid Astra lineup received power and range upgrades this summer, so we wouldn’t expect it to change again for the second time in a year. As for the EV, the company now lists it with a 58-kWh battery pack instead of the old 54-kWh one. Extrapolating from the pre-facelift range figures, it seems that the 2026 Astra EV should be able to travel up to 454 kilometers, or 282 miles, on a charge.
All specs and prices will likely be announced at an auto show in Brussels, Belgium in January.
