Renault and Volvo present their first collaboration, a versatile service van

Software Republique, a joint enterprise founded in France by Renault and Volvo to research innovative mobility solutions, has unveiled its first product. It is known as the U1st Vision and is envisioned as a commercial van for the delivery of goods and services alike, kind of like a workshop on wheels.

The company says it plans to start mass production in a few years’ time. It is expected to take place at Flexis, a new factory created between Renault Group and Volvo Trucks.

The design study seen here should give you an idea about the van’s possible applications. Its flexible architecture should allow using it in a variety of commercial scenarios, such as domestic and utility services, repair and maintenance, mobile kiosks and so on.

As for the van in the gallery here, it is designed as a mobile medical room complete with all the necessary furnishings and diagnostic equipment. The designers behind the concept say that the electronic systems on board are integrated with the smart medical equipment, whatever that’s supposed to mean. In any case, the idea is to provide fast medical response and assistance in areas with no nearby hospitals.

All technical parameters remain to be announced. For the time being, the company says it simply needs to get the public acquainted with the concept of on-demand mobile services.
