Daihatsu Taft gets LR Defender, 1980s-era Kei car styling opportunities

Japanese aftermarket vendor DAMD has launched two styling packages for the Daihatsu Taft. One of these is called Taft 80’s and the other one Taft Little D.

Opting for the first kit nets you a retro-style radiator grille and front bumper, as well as side decals. A retro paintjob is also available alongside eight other options, and you can replace the OEM seat upholstery with tartan fabric for maximum effect.

The somewhat misleadingly named Little D stands for “Little Defender”, replacing the radiator grille with a Land Rover-inspired one and adding British flag decals to the sides.

Each package comes in at 173,800 Japanese Yen, and decals are separately available at 52,800 Yen (Taft 80’s) and 30,800 Yen (Little D kit). Having your new front bumper painted to match the body costs extra.

The Daihatsu Taft reached the domestic market a year ago as a mixture between Kei car and crossover SUV. At 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and 1,630 mm tall, it comes powered by a puny 0.66-liter engine available in 52hp and 64hp forms. Despite the numbers, you can order it with an AWD system, rather than just front-wheel drive.
