Meet the Suzuki eVX, the marque’s first EV that isn’t even for Japan

Suzuki still has zero full-fledged electric vehicles in its range, although their development is in full swing. In the meantime, the Maruti–Suzuki joint enterprise from India arrived at the Auto Expo 2023 with an EV of its own, named the eVX.

The model utilizes a trimmed-down version of the e-TNGA modular architecture that Toyota uses to produce its bZ4X SUV. It runs on China-made BYD batteries, which is also unsurprising since the Chinese automaker has been co-designing cars for the local market with Toyota for a while now. The battery pack model is not revealed, but rumors say it is a LiFePo4 pack from the BYD Blade series.

In terms of dimensions, the car is comparable to the SX4 Concept. It is 4.3 meters long, 1.8 meters wide and 1.6 meters tall. However, unlike the concept, the eVX has 2.7 meters of inter-axle spacing instead of 2.6.

As for the tech, Maruti–Suzuki promises dual electric motors, AWD and 60 kilowatt-hours of power storage for 550 km (342 miles) of driving range. For the interior shots and other specs, we will just have to wait because nothing has been revealed thus far.

The mass-market Suzuki eVX is only scheduled to appear in the showrooms in a few years, but it will be simultaneously sold under two badges: Suzuki and Maruti. Customers will be able to choose between FWD and AWD and battery packs rated at 48 and 60 kWh. The production will take place at the Maruti–Suzuki factory in India. Finished cars will be sold domestically and exported to other Asian countries, as well as Europe.
