Tesla Semi finally reaches mass production

Although Tesla has been assembling its Semi electric trucks for select clients for a few years now, full-on production plans got pushed back repeatedly since the announcement of the model in the distant year 2017. Fast-forward to the present day, and it’s finally underway.

The assembly takes place in a recently created industrial complex in Sparks, Nevada, United States. The nominal capacity of the factory lets it churn out up to 50,000 Semis per year, but it remains to be seen whether the demand is strong enough to meet the supply. Up until recently, only major businesses and corporations like Walmart, DHL, PepsiCo and others used a small number of these trucks in test mode.

Compared to the version shown nine years ago, the present-day Tesla Semi is a considerably different EV. Among other things, it features a revised exterior design optimized to further reduce drag and benefits from a 15% increase in power efficiency. Like before, the company quotes 500+ miles (805+ kilometers) per charge without disclosing any battery capacity figures. Replenishing 60% of the charge is possible in 30 minutes given a sufficiently powerful source.

Packing three e-motors jointly rated close to 1,100 horsepower (800 kilowatts), the Semi only needs five seconds to sprint from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) when empty. Feel free to contact the manufacturer for any further details, such as the price.
