Here are the 10 most popular EVs of 2022

JATO Dynamics has published the rating of the world’s best-selling electric cars of 2022, Motor1 reports pointing out that 7 out of 10 cars in the rating come from China.

The ultimate crowd favorite is once again Tesla Model Y, which sold 747,500 units nearly doubling the result from the previous year. The Model 3 sedan came a distant second with 482,000 units. 95 percent of all Tesla sales last year fell on these two models, with the crossover SUV more popular in China and the sedan in the USA.

The Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, an affordable supermini from China, landed third, trailing the Tesla Model 3 by around 40,000 units. The BYD Dolphin ranked fourth and demonstrated the fastest year-on-year growth of 916 percent: from twenty-something thousand in 2021 to 205,200 units in 2022.

Aside from the Tesla duo, the only other non-Chinese car on the list is the Volkswagen ID.4, which ranked sixth with 175,600 units sold. Rounding off the ranking are the BYD Atto 3, BYD Qin, GAC Aion Y, GAC Aion S, and BYD Han.

Among European cars, the VW ID.4 and ID.3 showed the best results in terms of unit sales, followed by the Fiat 500. The Hyundai Ioniq 5 led the South Korean rating.
