Stretched Tesla Model YL expands from China to North America

The six-seat variant of the Tesla Model Y crossover will soon be available for ordering in the United States starting from $61,990.

Most technical specifications remain to be revealed, but the car looks identical to the Model YL for China, which has been on sale for around a year now. Its wheelbase is 150 millimeters (5.9 inches) longer than standard.

Two e-motors drive the four wheels with 462 PS (456 hp / 340 kW) and deliver up to 523 kilometers (325 miles) of range per charge, although the rating may be revised later for the U.S. market. Sprinting from zero to 96.6 km/h (60 miles per hour) is a matter of 4.4 seconds.

Even in its most basic version, the American Model YL is much better equipped than its Chinese counterpart. Unlike that one, it doesn’t ship with a bench seat in the second row, instead offering two separate seats with heating, power adjustments and ventilation. The rear row is heated as well.

Tesla also mentions a 16-inch multimedia screen, a 19-speaker audio setup, improved noise proofing all around, and adaptive shocks in the suspension.

It’s possible that the same SUV will later go on sale in Europe as well. Tesla hasn’t disclosed any plans to that effect just yet.
