The tiny Toyota e-Palette is a versatile electric vehicle envisioned for a large number of uses, from passenger transport to mobile kiosk or cinema. To stay flexible with the supply, the company plans to keep no stock and only produce to order.
The interior is surprisingly spacious and accommodates up to 16 passengers in addition to the driver. Toyota points out a wide entrance and a low, level floor with an optional access ramp that wheelchair users will appreciate.
A single electric motor provides 204 PS (201 hp / 150 kW) and 266 Nm (196 lb-ft) of torque, taking the microbus to a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). A 72.82-kWh battery pack delivers around 250 km (155 miles) of range per charge.
Talking about the potential uses of the EV, Toyota argues that owners can use it as a shuttle bus in the morning and evening, and as a mobile shop or fast food outlet the rest of the time. People may gather inside to watch sports broadcasts and movies, but only as long as the relevant equipment is installed.
Further options include assorted public information displays for the exterior and the cabin, floor latches for keeping wheelchairs in place and a Level 2 ADAS package. The company even promises a “full autopilot” by 2027.
Prices start from 29 million Japanese Yen. Actual costs will be lower thanks to the incentives Japan currently offers to all commercial EV buyers.
