Toyota upgrades its Le Mans racer for the next season

The automaker’s updated GR010 race car will hit the track next year and try to reclaim the gold of Le Mans that it lost once Ferrari rejoined the race.

Aerodynamic performance was the main focus in overhauling the 680-PS (671-hp / 500-kW) hybrid vehicle. The team installed a new rear wing, a front splitter and headlights somewhat reminiscent of those found on street-legal Toyotas. The rest is hard to see on the three darkened teaser pics available thus far.

Kazuki Nakajima, one of the execs of Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe, said that the GR010 Evolution wasn’t just being updated for the sake of it. He confirmed that the company was getting ready for the endurance racing season of 2026, aspiring to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Toyota team had led the ranking from 2017 until 2022, but has yielded to Ferrari from 2023 onward.

It is expected that the GR010 Evo will run its first track tests in Europe later this month. Toyota may supply more details about the car once the first testing phase is over. In the coming season, the racer will be facing competition from Aston Martin, BMW, Cadillac and Porsche. Ford, Genesis and McLaren will join the Le Mans marathon in 2027.
