With the Supra and the GR 86, Toyota already has two sport coupes going, but many fans still remember the Celica with fondness. According to Best Car Web, Tsuneji Sato – the company’s recently appointed CEO – admitted that he liked the idea of producing a new Celica generation.
Speaking at a press conference during a recent rally event in Japan, Sato let it slip that he would personally like to see a revived Celica in the modern-day Toyota lineup. The publication also quotes an insider saying that Toyota is preparing a successor to an iconic car ready for debut – while the details are unknown, it is intended to be the first model launched by the Japanese automaker under its new leadership.
One must keep in mind that none of these talks are official just yet. In the past, various Toyota executives agreed that it would be nice to bring the Celica back to the market, but never voiced any specific plans or time estimates.
