Backdated Toyota GR 86 crashes TAS-2026 with impeccable style

A tuning company known as Result Japan has arrived at the Tokyo Auto Salon with a very special Toyota GR 86 inspired by the iconic AE86 Trueno from the 1980s. Unlike many such styling kits from Japan, this one is going to be available worldwide, so get ready to order if it pushes your buttons.

The kit is called Neo86 and starts with a redesigned front end complete with retro-style anti-fog lights, a smooth sloping hood cover, fully functional pop-up headlamps and a lower spoiler. The styling continues at the sides with side skirts and bolt-on fender flares, a JDM favorite. Eight-spoke wheels further enhance the semblance with the AE86.

And then there’s the rear end, which is much less modified and only has a ducktail spoiler, LED taillights and a mildly reshaped bumper housing two tailpipes. The overall impression is that of a mix between vintage and modernity: you won’t mistake this GR 86 for a Trueno, it’s too rounded for that. But hey, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Things stay stock under the hood. Preorders are already being accepted. Aside from the GR 86, the kit should fit a number of related models, such as the Toyota GT 86, the Scion FR-S and the first-gen Subaru BRZ.
