Toyota Land Cruiser Prado powertrain lineup leaks online

The next generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is coming to us with a petrol engine, a diesel one and a hybrid system, BestCarWeb reports quoting anonymous insiders. The sales are expected to begin in mid-fall.

According to the sources, the low-end Prado SUV will utilize the same 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine as the current generation. Those who would like a diesel instead will be able to get the old 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbo. Both will reportedly be optimized for higher power output and lower fuel consumption, but that’s it.

We are also told that the next Prado generation will lack six-cylinder engine options. The top spec will allegedly utilize a 2.4-liter four-pot assisted by an electric motor on the rear axle for a combined 371 PS (366 hp / 273 kW). The same engine will be available in a 279-PS (276-hp / 205-kW) non-electrified form.

Unlike the Land Cruiser 300, which benefits from a ten-speed automatic transmission, the AT in the new Prado will be capped at six speeds. All-wheel drive will be available for all petrol variants, the insider says.

We know on official terms that the new Prado is based on the same platform as the Lexus GX, and that their dimensions are virtually identical. Coming in at 4.9 meters (16.07 feet) long, the Toyota is 50 mm (2 inches) shorter than its Lexus counterpart, but the difference is likely down to the body kit design. The ground clearance amounts to 225 mm, or 8.85 inches.

Rumor has it that the sales will start in October this year and that the prices will lie between 4 and 7 million Japanese Yen. It remains to be confirmed.
